Combating Pest Foxes in East Ballina
Resident Information Day
Residents in East Ballina are invited to attend a free information session on Saturday 13th February 2016 to find out more about pest fox populations in urban areas around Ballina and how they can be managed.
Recent monitoring activities in bushland reserves around East Ballina have shown significant fox populations living within these areas. WetlandCare Australia and Reconeco Ecological Consultants will be undertaking pest management activities for foxes within areas of Crown Land in East Ballina to combat this problem in the coming months. Control methods including cage trapping and den fumigation will be used which are safe for use in urban areas. This project has been funded by NSW Department of Primary Industries, Crown Lands.
‘We will also be holding an information day for residents to find out more about the fox problem in East Ballina and the upcoming management program’ said Laura White, WetlandCare Australia Senior Project Officer. ‘Many people may not be aware of the fox problems in the area and the simple things they can do around the home to deter foxes, such as regularly removing uneaten pet food and securing compost bins. We encourage local residents to come along and learn about the threats that foxes pose to our pets and homes as well as to our natural environment and bushland reserves. You can also find out more about fox control methods and how you can help with controlling foxes in your neighborhood.’

The information stall will be set up between 11am and 1pm on Saturday 13th February at the end of Ainsworth Close in East Ballina. Complimentary light refreshments will be available. If you would like more information or wish to register for the information session please contact Laura White on 1800 816 147 or laurawhite@wetlandcare.com.au
