Protecting the Ramsar Values of Little Llangothlin Lagoon

WetlandCare Australia and the Northern Tablelands Local Land Services are working in partnership, funded by the Australian Government’s Caring for our Country program, to protect and enhance the ecological character of the Little Llangothlin Lagoon Ramsar site.

This project will work with local landholders to undertake environmental restoration works in the Little Llangothlin Lagoon catchment area, assisting with management actions such as stock fencing, off-site water and re-vegetation activities. Such activities will protect and restore native vegetation, increase fauna habitat and improve water quality within the catchment. These important restoration works will not only improve the ecological health of the lagoon and the connectivity of the ecological communities of catchment, but also improve agricultural productivity.

Little Llangothlin Lagoon catchment area is located on the Northern Tablelands near the township of Guyra. The Lagoon itself is a part of the Little Llangothlin Nature Reserve which covers an area of 258 and is listed as an Australian Ramsar site. The site supports various threatened plant and animal species and incorporates several threatened ecological communities.
