All ages are welcome and activities range from planting trees and grasses, walks and talks, to kids crafts and activities.
It will be a wonderful opportunity to snap some pictures and enter WCA’s annual photography prize Wetlands in Focus. Don’t forget your camera!
Ngulingah Local Aboriginal Land Council and Landcare have been working on the site removing invasive Coral trees to prepare it for the day when around 1000 native trees and grasses will be planted. Lismore Lions Club is running a BBQ for everyone to enjoy.
WetlandCare Australia (WCA) Intern Shae Kolk said “This is a wonderful opportunity for families and individuals to learn more about Wetlands while helping to restore floodplain vegetation and improve water quality in our catchment.”
World Wetlands Day (WWD) was first celebrated in 1997 bringing together agencies, organisations and community groups to raise public awareness of our dynamic wetlands. WetlandCare Australia is a not for profit organisation and has recently partnered with Conservation Volunteers Australia, working together, in conjunction with community and numerous partners, to protect, restore and promote wetland areas across Australia.
Anyone wishing to attend World Wetlands Day, or interested in finding out more about this celebration is encouraged to contact Shae Kolk on 6681 6169 or email shaekolk@wetlandcare.com.au
